About

'NOTA' is a dialect in Shigaraki, that is a technical word of ceramic that represents 'slip', attaching clay in its producing process.
We make lifestyle products and design based on ceramic, also selling them in Shigaraki, one of the oldest ceramic producing area in Japan.
Connecting people and people, people and things, people and matters, things and things. We’d love to be like ‘glue’ to build up relationships such in betweens.

NOTA&design is run by 2 designers, Shunsuke and Kayoko Kato.

PROFILE

「Shunsuke Kato」
Born in Shigaraki, Shiga prefecture in 1984.During his study at Kyoto Seika University, he worked as an intern at IDEE experience. He went to London to study design, after returning to Japan, then started graphic design and making films with Kayoko as a partner. He worked at an advertising agency in Tokyo, then went back his hometown, Shigaraki for engaging in his family business, “Yamatatsu Ceramics” established in 1881, started to work as an in-house designer and experienced ceramic production. He launch new brands in the company and collaborated with many companies,
currently, he established “NOTA&design”, producing to selling, total lifestyle design office based on ceramic.

Kayoko Kato
Born in Hyogo prefecture, 1984.After her graduation from the graphic design course at Seian University of Art and Design, worked at a design office in Osaka. After her marriage, she moved to Shigaraki, learned techniques of ‘lath for small objects’ and ‘plaster mold making’ in Shigaraki Experiment Station of Ceramics for 2 years.

ABOUT

NOTA（ノタ）とは陶器を作る際に粘土同士をくっつけるのり状の接着剤の事。陶器用語ではドベとも言います。私たちは焼物の産地「信楽」にて陶器を軸にしたライフスタイル全般のデザイン、制作、販売を行っています。ヒトとヒトがつながったり。ヒトとモノがつながったり。ヒトとコトがつながったり。モノとモノとがつながったり。その間の接着剤のような役割ができればと思っています。

NOTA&designは加藤駿介と加藤佳世子の２人のデザイナーで運営されています。

「加藤駿介」
1984年、滋賀県信楽町生まれ。
京都精華大学在学中にIDEE experienceにてアルバイト勤務後、ロンドンにデザインを学ぶために留学。帰国後は映像制作、グラフィックデザインを現在のパートーナーと開始。東京の広告制作会社に勤務後、地元である信楽に戻り1881年に創業した家業である老舗「ヤマタツ陶業」にて陶器のデザイン、制作に従事。新しい陶器ブランドの設立や企業とのコラボレーションを社内にて構築後、陶器を軸にしたライフスタイル全般のデザイン、制作販売業務を行なう「NOTA&design」を設立。

「加藤佳世子」
1984年、兵庫県生まれ。
成安造形大学グラフィックコース卒業後、大阪のデザイン事務所にて勤務。結婚を機会に信楽に移り、信楽窯業試験所にて「小物ロクロ」「石膏型」を2年間学ぶ。
